Stillness in Motion brings together artists Maya Borjesson, Ingrid Hollis and Stephanie Jook to investigate the relationship between connection, memory and loss. Through installation, sound, sculpture and painting this show explores the different layers of connection - between individuals, between cultures and between the past and present.
The artists offer a restrained sensitivity to material, using form to solidify a moment - stillness - in a world of flux. Through Maya’s ephemeral use of light, sound and translucent fabrics, Ingrid's investigation of national flags through black steel and Stephanie's flowing yet firm monochromatic works, a slippage occurs.
Through this, the artists examine how loss and erosion in the passage of time is inherent in this search for connection. Between these works, a tension is held. Inviting contemplation about the interrelationship between light and dark - between connection and loss.
The open event is Thursday, June 5th. The exhibition is showing from June 3rd until June 14th. All works are for sale through No Vacancy Gallery.
